As you may know the Rupert Murdoch neswpaper 'The Times' has been on a crusade against the security mesures around the construction plants of the Athens Olympics 2004 (due to some personal reasons obviously).
Isn't ironic that The Times is one of the major newspapers of a country which has serious problems in protecting its own prime minister:

The Times asked the question last week when their journalist entered the Olympic Stadium (which is under construction) - only to be arrested.... - 'what if she had a bomb'.
As the protestors yesterday only raised a purple haze with their flour powered condoms in front of a 600,000 pounds new security screen I just want to ask 'What if this was anthrax?'.
The news is that the first arc of the roof of the Athens Olympics 2004 stadium has reached its final position last night and the move of the second arc has just started.
The arc will move with a speed of 3 meters per hour and is expected to reach its final position - 63 meters away - at the beginning of next week.
This is just so funny that I have to share this with you: Last night a London Times reported (Laura Peak I think the name was) and a photographer tried to sneak in the Athens Olympics 2004 Construction stadium in order to 'prove' that the security mesures in the Olympics Stadium are incomplete.
Naturally they were arrested...
It is so annoying that the Olympics have received so much bad press due to a climate of paranoia that is rising all over the world at the moment. Greeks are definitely not the most organised nation in the world and neither are they always telling the truth when it comes to revealing information. However, this rises to levels of pure stupidity.
The Portugal Euro 2004 is about to start next month and Portugal received no bad publicity on the state of their stadia or the possibility of a terrorist act - even though they are next door to Spain who received the terrible act of terror a couple of months ago.
I find it so annoying that there is so much stupidity and cretinisim in journalists all over the world today (Greek journalists as well) who bring only seeds of paranoia and terror in the hearts of people. And I definitely do not mean just the Olympics reports.
Some lawyers are ambulance chasers. Some journalists are ambulance fillers.

The good news is that the two massive arcs of the Olympic stadium have started sliding towards the stadium today. The plan is to have both arcs into place be the end of the week. (They will have to move about 70 metres each with a speed of 5 metres per hour).
Once the arcs are in place the steel plates placement will commence, along with the 'beautification' of the surrounding area.
98 days left!
Isn't it great to be in the double figure numbers?
I realize that one of the most difficult (and rather embarassing at this stage) issues with the construction of the stadia for the Athens Olympics 2004 is the termination in the works around the main Olympic Stadium where the athletics events the opening/closing ceremonies will be held.
At this stage the news is that the massive 'Calatrava' arcs as they we call them are nearly finished their move over the Stadium will commence within the next 5 days - according to the project manager of the cosntruction. Their move will be a rather slow one (3 meters per hour) and it will take about 15 days till they are on their final location over the stadium. Unfortunately this is not the end of the construction as an amazing number of glass plates will have to be placed over the stadium suspended by the arcs. This is a proces that will take at least 45 days to finish.
The annoying thing is that I doubt that the works around the Olympic stadium (gardens, benches, trees, fences etc.) will be finished on tiome due to the targeting of the construction on the arcs and the roof of the stadium.
There was a recent post in Australian newspapers that the worldwide trip of the Olympic flame will not reach Sydney and Melbourne due to the fact that the Greek organizing commitee requests a Greek armed guard around the flame something that cannot be allowed by Australian law.
This cannnot be further from the truth. The organizing commitee has assigned protection of the flame and runners with the local authorities and has never requested such an armed guard.
